This clearly shows a defect in an 1880 ‘s chimney in Peebles. Given that a new Charnwood stove was going to be installed, the easy decision to re-line was made. Aside from the safety aspect the appliance will work more efficiently!
This chimney in Moffat with an Arrow stove shows a split liner at the adapter flue pipe union , which is potentially a fire / emission hazard ! Someone has unsuccessfully tried to repair it at some stage.
Metal liner from Helios stove near Linlithgow. I was asked to check the flue integrity. Failure at the top was apparent. There are a couple of causes for this .
This was an unused chimney in an old cottage in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire. The issue was persistent damp patches on the wall. Severe erosion of the mortar joints and moss growing ,strongly indicates the chimney being the culprit !
This was in a farmhouse near Tarbrax , West Calder. Self evident the issue here ! These bricks were from the mid-feathers (bridging) and were fortunately easily dislodged. The installer could now line the chimney and make an effective repair.
This was a chimney in a recently purchased home of a couple in Bathgate , West Lothian . They wanted to know if their open fire was safe. Unfortunately apart from being worn, there were clear defects and breaches into the bedroom chimney above .
I found this very interesting. A relatively new house in Livingston, West Lothian with an Esse wood burner. There were a number of symptoms being reported but no obvious cause ! The customer decided to request an inspection . This picture shows an insufficient length of liner had been inserted .
This picture shows a failed connection of 2 chimney systems in East Kilbride, Glasgow . The Stovax Riva it was servicing had been experiencing problems. Obviously it had to be rectified before it could be safely used.
